Mosaic: Celebrating Christian Unity and Cultural Diversity

ABOUT US

We are a group of Christians living in Harrow, North West London, who are exploring how we can make church more accessible to all the different cultural backgrounds who live around us. Our services are in English and we always seek to have representation, affirmation and celebration of other cultures and languages.

OUR VISION

TO BE AN INTERCULTURAL CHURCH

We intentionally describe ourselves as “intercultural” rather than ”multicultural”, because one can live in a multicultural society where cultures co-exist alongside each other, but still have little meaningful interaction.

At Mosaic we want to be an intercultural community who proactively values shared learning and blessing from each other’s cultural insights.

TO BE AN INTERCULTURAL CHURCH RESOURCE HUB

We are part of Intercultural Churches UK, a network of intercultural churches and church plants, working in partnership with others to help Christians in London and the UK to have a more global perspective. Some of our church family are also involved in the Diocese of London Intercultural Think Tank.

Our Strategy

Prayer

Everything we do is rooted in prayer, be that personal or corporate. We believe in joining inter-church prayer initiatives, and in particular those organised by One Church, our supporting resource church.

To be Intentionally Intercultural

Reduce "Cultural Distance"

  • For people to find a place of belonging and sense of family and community.
  • For Mosaic members to develop intercultural relationships.
  • To enable cross-cultural evangelism.
  • For people from diverse backgrounds to find Jesus more easily.

To Increase “Cultural Intelligence”

To teach and equip our members, in humility, to be more culturally aware and sensitive.

To Increase “Cultural Comfort”

To honour and celebrate cultural difference – whether you are from Ghana, or Iran, or the UK or Sri Lanka, we want you to know that there is a place at our table for you.

Diversity in Leadership

To honour and celebrate cultural difference – whether you are from Ghana, or Iran, or the UK or Sri Lanka, we want you to know that there is a place at our table for you.

Diversity in Worship

We believe that our corporate worship as diverse peoples uniquely hosts something special of God’s presence. While having English as the core language there will always be significant cultural and language representation to confirm our core beliefs that no culture has the best view of God. We always end our services with food together, and encourage people to bring their “heart” food to share for the blessing of others.

Youth and Young Families

The next part of our growth strategy is reaching youth and young families. For young families, we are looking to alter our service times, from evening to the late afternoon, so families can come.

Also, we have already seen a great interest among young people in Mosaic – because, for them the idea of living interculturally is less of a challenge, and more part of their everyday lives.

Outreach and Street Evangelism

We have started to do this regularly as we want to see many more people find Jesus.

Mission and Justice

The plight of the refugee, issues with work permits, affordable housing, access to appropriate healthcare; our team are already involved in a number of local projects that are making an impact in our community.
